This is an experimental banjo that I put together to try out some ideas that were new to me, and some that may be entirely new as far as I know. It is a 6 string banjo that can be set up like a guitar, tuned EADGBE or as a 5+1 banjo or ‘lojo’ as played by Sarah Jarosz, among others. It’s a bit of an oddity but it sounds good and plays easily once you get used to the extra string. The nut width is 1-3/4″, scale length is 25.5″ and the fretboard has a 12″ radius for easier reaching of all of the strings. The hardware is mostly aluminum and was put together by me except for the hooks, nuts, tuners and two way truss rod which all came from Stew-Mac. The tunnel for the short drone string is designed to be as unobtrusive as possible when the low E string is being used instead.
