May was one of those months that start with “And now for something completely different…..”, but I did build one custom banjo in a normal way. It is #343, with an 11″ maple pot with a shallower depth, a Dobson heel and a few other minor changes from what I keep in stock.

I also got a delivery of firewood which will provide our heat in the house and the workshop for the winter of 2025-26 and stacked it in the woodshed, and went for a two day camping trip by bicycle to Lake Lila. I’ll put in a link below in case anyone would like to see the trip report and pictures.

The rest of the month was mostly spent on beginning the long-postponed double bass project. I will put in a few pictures showing some of the stages. I began work on the bass on May 4th and the last picture will show where I got to by the end of the month. It was a slow process because of how big everything is.

This was the state of things at the end of May. The next picture is from June 11. My hope is to apply the finish tomorrow, and get the bass set up over the weekend. Then I have a custom resonator banjo to build in the latter part of the month, and a number of custom projects scheduled for July.
