My first group of projects in August were oddly and coincidentally similar to one another. They were all unfinished parts of banjos being shipped to Commonwealth countries. First was an incomplete neck and rim assembly going to the UK.
Next was a still incomplete but slightly more developed neck and rim assembly going to Australia.
Last was an unfinished Kraske-esque hollow rim with brass hardware fitted to an existing neck and shipped to Canada.
In the latter half of the month I made a batch of 5 stock banjos, #347-351. They are all shown on the Banjos page. I was out of A scale banjos and only had one C scale left, so I restocked those and a couple of 12″ banjos too.
In the last few days of August I didn’t work on instruments at all, but worked on some unfinished business about the interior of the house. I taped the drywall in a hurry two years ago and didn’t get it as smooth as I would have liked, and also used some paint that I got for $1 a quart that turned out not to be very washable, so I have been touching up walls and ceilings and will be continuing to work on that this month off and on. I’d like to get it done before the weather gets cold so I can open the windows. There’s also some more trim work I’ve been finishing up, little things that I kept putting off.
I didn’t get a good window of weather for camping in August, but I am hoping there will be at least one more this year, between now and early October. My sister is coming to visit for 10 days this month too, so my shop time will be a bit limited, but on the other hand I don’t currently have any custom work scheduled and the supply of stock instruments is pretty good, so if I don’t get much done till October it will be okay. I am hoping to finally build a 12 string guitar this fall. I bought a set of tuners from Stewart-MacDonald on a closeout sale 8 years ago, so I’ve been putting this off for a long time.
