  • February banjos, a guitar, and an octave mandolin

February started off pretty quietly in the shop. I didn’t have any custom work lined up, so I took a few days to put together these birch bark veneered wood corners for the museum in town where I volunteer. They had old ones from when they opened 20 years ago that were a bit worn,

  • January banjos and a neck

January was a productive month this year with three batches of banjos. Each batch had one custom banjo and some stock banjos. First was banjo #425, a custom 12″ walnut slot head banjo with curly maple trim that was ordered in December. #426 and 427 were stock banjos and are shown on the Banjos page.

  • December banjos and a mystery instrument

December was a good month here in the shop. I started off with a batch comprising one stock banjo and three custom banjos. The stock banjo is an 11″ mahogany, #417, and is shown on the Banjos page. #418 was a mahogany 11″ with a paddle peghead and an ebony fretboard. #419 was a fretless

  • November banjos, mandolins and a dulcimer

November was fairly productive this year, but I was gone for 5 days around Thanksgiving to visit my sister in Massachusetts and help her move into a cute but tired old cabin at Gould Farm, where she lives and works. The maintenance team did some work on the cabin late this fall after it became

  • October banjos and necks, and a vastly improved website

October started off with a batch of 5 assorted 12″ banjos, from #409 to #413. They are all shown on the Banjos page. Next came a mixed batch containing a long neck banjo and two random necks. The long neck was #414, a 12″ walnut banjo with a 32″ scale length, ebony fretboard, and all

  • September banjos and a new mahogany source

September was a bit unusual in that I had no custom work on hand to be done, but I had (and still have) a lot of stock instruments to catch up on restocking. Banjos 401-403 were partly made at the end of August, and completed in September, and 404-408 were made entirely in September. All

  • August banjos

August was another mildly non-productive month in my corner of the world, but I got a little bit of work done and have more to do this month. I started with a batch that included banjo #397, a walnut 11″ with a custom slimmer neck. #398 and 399 are both stock banjos and are shown

  • July banjos and a bouzouki

July in the shop started off with a couple of stock A scale banjos, #394 and 395, followed by a stock 12″ walnut thin rim banjo with a Dobson tone ring, #396. These are all shown on the Banjos page. The only custom project for the month was a bouzouki, built using the mandocello mold

  • June banjos

June was a slow month for me, partly because of training but more because of some kind of summer cold I picked up at training which kept me at a lower speed for a couple of weeks. I saved my energy for training because I didn’t want to have to restart the whole process. I

  • May banjos and a plectrum guitar

May was a busy month with all the trips to Potsdam for fire training, but I still got a few things done in the shop. I somehow failed to post the pictures of the cello banjo neck that I made for a customer’s existing minstrel banjo pot, though I mentioned the project at the end
